National Geographic Halloween story about robotic boats

October 31, 2014

National Geographic featured a story on Halloween about scientists who use animal costumes to assist in their research. They interviewed us for this story because we used a crocodile disguise on the Platypus robotic boat we used last spring to survey hippo pools. A Maasai friend of ours had suggested the disguise, on the theory that it would keep hippos from attacking the boat. Hippos and crocodiles often share river reaches together, but have an uneasy relationship. Read the story on the National Geographic website
