Hippo conveyor belts covered in Inside Science

March 9, 2015

Inside Science, the online science news site, recently profiled our research on the role of hippos as “conveyor belts” of carbon and nutrients from the savanna grasslands to the river. They discuss how we quantified these inputs from the hippos, and the role these inputs may play in supporting the food web of the river system. The story was based on findings from our recent publication in Freshwater Biology, “The hippopotamus conveyor belt: vectors of carbon and nutrients from terrestrial grasslands to aquatic systems in sub-Saharan Africa.”
